ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN
By supporting this campaign, you will give Vegg.in the opportunity to participate in the Kick incubator program.
THE PROBLEM
For the past 18 years I have been living a vegetarian lifestyle.
When I decided I wanted to transition into veganism I was shocked at the absence of organized and reliable information. I quickly realized there is no single go-to online resource to satisfy the increasing population of
individuals adopting vegan and vegetarian diets on an occasional or routine basis.
With this realization, I saw an opportunity to turn my passion for sustainability into a comprehensive resource that could also be beneficial to other individuals, their communities, the environment
and of course, the animals.
I have embarked on a journey to create an extensive online community for people interested in sustainable and compassionate living with a large emphasis on vegan and vegetarian lifestyles.
I want to remind consumers that the food they choose to eat, the clothes they decide to wear and the lifestyle they agree to adopt influences the health of not just themselves but their local communities, the environment and the entire world in a countless
ways.
WHY THIS MATTERS
We’ve all heard it: You are what you eat. A balanced diet of fruits and veggies, but light in saturated fat and salt is considered the best way to keep cholesterol and blood pressure stable and heart disease at bay. Not
only do vegetarian and vegan diets minimize animal cruelty, but they also leave a significantly reduced footprint than meat-based diets. Large-scale factory farms deplete natural resources like water, fossil fuels and topsoil while polluting our water and
atmosphere at alarming rates.
Obesity in adult Americans is not breaking news and has been steadily increasing for more than a decade. What is shocking is that 1 out of every 5 children and adolescents are now considered clinically obese (according to
the CDC). As a result, there has been a steady increase in diseases such as Hypertension, Diabetes, Heart Disease and High Cholesterol. It’s undeniable that the cost of quality health care is on the rise, so people taking matters into their own hands and are
seeking alternative treatments. Many incorporate diet and exercise as a first step and more and more people are electing to reap the benefits of a plant-based diet.
While Vegg.in helps users eat consciously, there is no intention of stopping there. We want to encourage everyone to invite sustainability and conscious living into every aspect of their lives by being an ethical consumer
and global citizen.
WHAT IS VEGG.IN?
Initially, Vegg.in will offer a social platform for users to exchange knowledge about anything related to sustainable, conscious living with an emphasis on vegetarian and vegan lifestyles. Vegg.in is not just about diet,
as healthy and sustainable living translates into every aspect of life from the clothing you choose to wear to the products used to clean your home.
Vegg.in will also serve as a media outlet by connecting responsible consumers with conscious companies. While Vegg.in will eventually offer a multitude of services, the first feature of our site is a recipe sharing community
that will allow users to easily explore and organize veg recipes from various platforms, post recipes, rate, review and adapt any recipe to be vegan or vegetarian. We are also aiming to build the largest comprehensive online directory of veg products, restaurants,
conscious companies and co-ops.
GOALS FOR KICK
My vision for Vegg.in is very ambitious and extends far beyond that of a social networking site or recipe blog. I want to instill ethical consumerism into our society and change the world through better business practice.
Vegg.in will help repair the disconnect between how consumers influence the planet, their communities and their health through the companies they support, the products they buy and the food they eat.
Participation in the
Kick Incubator Program will help me to find business mentors and access a wealth of resources catering to Seattle’s start-up community. Being surrounded by other ambitious and passionate entrepreneurs from various backgrounds and industries who can offer
their opinions and perspectives is also invaluable. By the end of Kick I hope to:
- Have a clearly defined business plan and strategy
- Build an alpha version of Vegg.in
- Understand what it takes to achieve success and sustainability
- Possess a defined approach to securing capital and scaling
