How It Works

How Crowdfunding on StartSomeGood Works

StartSomeGood is a different kind of crowdfunding platform. Here, it’s not just about handing you technology and watching you sink or swim. We know you’re here because you have an important idea to make a difference, and we want to help!

For us, that means providing you with great technology but also offering great human advice, coaching and feedback to help you succeed. It’s why we have the highest project success rate in cause crowdfunding.

How Does Crowdfunding Work?

Crowdfunding is about sharing your idea with the community and inviting them to be part of it. This could be a new community organization, a social enterprise product, a one-off project, creative production or research project.

Your crowdfunding page will describe your idea and the funding you need and will offer people the chance to support you. Depending on the style of campaign this could be by making a donation or pre-purchasing a product or service.

How Crowdfunding Works On StartSomeGood

We offer two types of Crowdfunding: One-Off and Recurring.

Which Sorts of Projects are Best for Which Model?

One-off campaigns are best for any project which requires a specific amount of funding within a specific timeframe, such as launching a social enterprise, setting up a community garden, doing a park clean-up or animal survey, fuelling an activist campaign or holding an event.

For one-off campaigns we offer the most successful and helpful fundraising model, “all-or-nothing”, which gives your potential donors greater security and helps you reach your goals.

Recurring campaigns are best if you’re looking to build a dedicated supporter group to sustain long-term work, like maintaining a community garden, holding regular clean-ups or animal surveys or long-term community organising work.

Recurring campaigns don’t have specific fundraising goals and process supporter payments monthly.

Examples:

  • Are you launching a new, one-time purchase product, like a t-shirt, food product, app, etc? One-Off Crowdfunding.

  • Offering a subscription product, like regular deliveries or a membership community? Recurring Crowdfunding.

  • Finishing or releasing a documentary feature film? One-off.

  • Launching or growing an ongoing project like a Podcast or vlog? Recurring.
