What is the New Dream Community Action Kit?
The Community Action Kit is a series of free online guides to help people organize collective action and civic engagement to make their communities more sustainable, healthy, and happy.
What's different about these guides?
Our guides answer the question HOW? How can we change our communities? What are some practical, real things that we can do right now to get started?
Each guide offers step-by-step tips for planning and launching projects,
fun videos profiling real communities around the country, and a comprehensive
list of resources to learn more.
Successful Launch
In April, New Dream put out our first guide in the series, the Guide to Sharing — helping communities everywhere share
more (stuff, labor, time, everything!).
In just the first month, over 2,000 people have checked out the guide on our website, and we're hearing exciting stories from people who are already using it to brainstorm new projects for their community.
But this is just the beginning. Up next — New Dream is going local.
Help us launch our next guide: THE GUIDE TO GOING LOCAL!
The Guide to Going Local will be a free, easy-to-use online resource to help people organize campaigns to strengthen their local economies.
Now more than ever, it is important to have strong, resilient communities — to connect neighbors with one another, to invest in local shops and jobs, and to find ways to truly measure the well-being of the community.
With how-to tips, fun videos, and useful resources, the Guide to Going Local will provide the inspiration and practical tools you need to get started on projects in your community — right away!
Topics in the guide will include:
- Fighting big box intrusion
- Supporting local food systems
- Building resilience and reskilling
- Starting local investment clubs
- Embracing alternatives to GDP
