In January 2013 Jonathan Moylan, a young translator from Newcastle, made national headlines by sending a press release purporting to be from ANZ bank.
The release aimed to highlight the environmental and economic problems with ANZ’s $1.2 billion loan to Whitehaven Coal for the controversial Maules Creek mine.
The mine is set to damage farmland and water on the Liverpool Plains of NSW. There is strong community support for stopping the mine expansion.
Jonathan is facing 10 years jail & $765 000 in fines for this act of good conscience. We are supporting the legal, travel and campaign costs associated with fighting the case.
