Where We're At
Great news! In early 2013, Crowdsourced Travel formed a partnership with
Drik, an organisation with a strong history of using photography to promote social justice in Bangladesh. Drik has agreed to do a Bangladesh-based print run of Crowdsourced Travel's Positive Light photography book.
Due to a sponsor pulling out, we have been placed in the difficult position of wanting to print the book, but not having all the funds we need to do so. Not being ones to hold back, Drik and Crowdsourced Travel decided to take a bank loan to keep the printing
of Positive Light on track.
To pay off the loan as soon as possible, we need all who believe in the dynamic potential of Bangladesh and its people to pledge step up and purchase a copy of Positive Light. We're planning to get it shipped out to you by June 2013.
What is Positive Light?
Positive Light is a new photography book meant to show the stunning beauty of Bangladesh to the world. Bangladesh's international image has long been tarnished by poverty and calamity. But we believe this has held back investment and tourism from a country
whose every day people deserve to earn under the dignity of fair exchange instead of the pity of poverty.
Positive Light creator Mikey Leung spoke at
TEDxDhaka in September 2012 about the Positive Light project if you want to know more.
As part of the larger
Crowdsourced Travel project, Positive Light is also a travel photography website that harnesses the energy of photographers of Bangladesh -- amateur, professional or hobbyist -- into one place. The goal is to accumulate the country’s best travel photography
into a single resource library for use in promoting Bangladesh internationally. All images published are licensed under a Creative Commons attribution license (CC BY), which means that anyone doing tourism related work in Bangladesh can republish these images
on their website without breaking copyright rules. Other than usage in the
Bangladesh: Bradt Travel Guide and Positive Light, no further print resolution (ie high resolution) use of the images will be permitted without the photographer's written permission.
What's the back story?
In 2011, we successfully raised funds on StartSomeGood to found Crowdsourced Travel and get the funds we needed to hold the Positive Light photography contest,
build a website, and design our coffee table book for distribution on Blurb.
We're back again in Dhaka now to see the project through to its final destination -- a full-size coffee table book in the hands of as many people as possible. And to pull it off, we need your help.
