Each classroom at River Song School is a working child-led community of learners. Mixed age classrooms mean that every child has friends, mentors, and proteges. Diversity is celebrated and the larger community is embraced through financial
need scholarships and community outreach projects.
Arts and Cultural Education
Strong academic fundamentals are interwoven with art, music, movement and global curriculum to create a foundation for lifelong learning. The school environment and Montessori educational philosophy cultivate self-confidence, critical thinking and compassion,
as each child follows her or his own path and becomes part of a greater community.
Peace Education
Peace education, conflict resolution skills, and compassionate communication are major values for students and teachers at River Song School. Each classroom had a rug or table specifically designated for conflict resolution and children are guided to work
out their disagreements peacefully and regularly.
Teacher Excellence
All of the head teachers at River Song School have at least a Bachelor's degree and have earned an AMI or AMS teaching diploma in Montessori Education. We are the only Montessori program in Bend that adheres to these standards. In order
to maintian our high standards of teacher excellence, all "guides" engage in ongoing teacher trainings every year. This is true for both head guides and assistant guides in every classroom. Because of their ongoing and extensive training, we know that our
children are getting the best possible Montessori education.
