When discussing issues as grave as homelessness, domestic violence, drug addiction and social exclusion, it’s not so typical to also find yourself discussing yoga, massage, reiki, music, art and laughter therapy,
but then ADAMA is not such a typical charity. ADAMA is an organisation of over 200 people, made up not only of therapists and tutors, but also co-ordinators, fundraisers, accountants, and lawyers, and every one of them gives their time entirely for free. Their
goal is to improve the quality of life of their participants by offering all the previously mentioned activities and therapies in 25 centres to nearly 1000 participants in Barcelona. They believe that by providing these people with a little emotional support,
a chance to ease their stress, an opportunity for expression and a bit of physical contact, rather than just sterile, functional assistance, there will be more chance of really solving their problems.
OTOXO Productions is going to make a documentary about the work of ADAMA, the people who do it, and the people whose lives are changed by it. The film will give the issue of social exclusion a human voice. It will
turn numb statistics into real people. Skin and bones, aches and pains, hopes and fears, breaths and heartbeats. It will follow a small group of people, men and women, young and old, who have suffered in many different ways, but who have now been brought together
by the chance of a new beginning, with the helping hands of ADAMA.
