With your support, on August 28th 20 young women in Portland, OR between 17 and 24 years old will begin their first day of paid, hands-on construction experience. This opportunity will change their lives forever, teaching them not
only construction skills, but also basic life skills. With a one to five ratio, young women get personal guidance through the process from experienced female instructors. Construction careers start at nearly twice minimum wage, and it is time for young women
to have the opportunity to earn these living wages, for themselves and their families.
This year over the course of seven weeks 20 young women will build three sheds, 10 garden beds, a fence and an informational kiosk, all for local non-profits and schools. They will also receive lessons on credit and banking, nutrition
for the working body, fitness for construction and life navigational skills. Upon graduation, these young women are ready to get serious about careers in construction!
