"Every time you spend money, you're casting a vote for the kind of world you want."
- Anna Lappe
We’re a bit like a match-making site. Except instead of matching people with other people, we’re matching people with products. But the principle is the same: we
tell people how much a product comports with their values, versus how much it conflicts with their values.
There are many individual sites out there that compile product information, company information, government information and the like. But they are all individual.
Spend Consciously takes all of this disparate information and stitches it together. It’s Six Degrees of Separation for informed consumption. “If I buy this product,
who really gets the money? Do they create American jobs or outsource jobs overseas? What business practices am I supporting? Does the manufacturer engage in sustainable business practices? Do its suppliers? Or its subsidiaries? Are they benefiting from tax
loopholes? Are they hiring veterans?
We do more than just connect the dots. We provide users with easy-to-understand indicators of how much a product does and does not comport with their values, as well
as present them with information regarding their top priorities, all available at time of purchase. Consumers don’t have time to identify all the different sources they’d need to search to properly evaluate a product, let alone conduct all those searches and
compare the results. We take care of that by presenting them with the results that will have the most impact on their spending.
