Harvest Fair is here to provide delicious culturally rich food direct to your workplace - and we are using the power of good food to advance gender equity in Australia.
We employ Culinary Creators, who are women who don't quite fit into mainstream employment, to create these meals at home with the special ingredients of love, care and passion. We engage business owners with offices in isolated business precincts of Adelaide to lease a Harvest Fair Fresh Fridge which is placed within their office building and restocked twice per week with a range of delicious meals prepared by our Culinary Creators for purchase by employees. There’s no need to wait or drive to get food, and having fresh healthy lunch options readily available to employees can lead to happy and productive staff.
100% of the profits from the sale of these meals will go towards employment, training, mentoring and skills development for our remarkable women to give them brighter futures and chance to break the cycle of inequity.
How will Harvest Fair advance gender equity?
The gender pay gap in Australia remains at over 16% and has only reduced by 1% in the last seven years. We believe that this persistent pay gap is due to an outdated and fundamentally flawed employment regime - it is a time-restricted system which often doesn’t allow women the flexibility to balance between career aspirations and family values. When forced to choose, women will often choose family. The long term impact of gender inequity is that women earn less, have less superannuation, and as such are more vulnerable to poverty, homelessness, mental health issue and violence across the lifespan.
We can do something about this!
Harvest Fair will test a new outputs-based way of working which allows employees to negotiate and meet planned outputs by an agreed time, but which doesn’t restrict them to working between 9-5. We will work 1-1 with these women to identify their goals and assist them to pursue the those goals with their income, and we will connect them to networks that they might not have had access to otherwise. We believe that with equitable employment conditions, women can flourish and gender equality in the workforce can be achieved.
Who is behind Harvest Fair?
Amy Orange and Adrianna Pearce are the co-founders behind Harvest Fair - they share a passion for gender equality. With significant experience working across the not for profit community services sector and marketing/PR, Amy and Adrianna have been witness to many capable women who have been unable to meet their potential in mainstream employment due to caring responsibilities, lack of confidence, cultural stigma, physical and mental health conditions, and lack of access to affordable resources and networks. We believe that we have what it takes to make Harvest Fair a truly disruptive enterprise that can be replicated to help women to realise their dreams across the whole of Australia.
Why does Harvest Fair need you?
We know that we have what it takes to make Harvest Fair a reality but we still need YOUR help to get started! We are creating a platform for change to a more equitable employment model, and to succeed we need to bring as many people on this journey with us as possible. You can help by investing in our vision through this crowdfunding campaign, by spreading the word on Harvest Fair with your networks, by following our journey on social media and by encouraging your employer to consider leasing a Harvest Fair Fresh Fridge for your workplace.
"Remodelling workplaces to meet the needs of women (and potentially others ) is vital for equity of opportunity in work participation. Harvest Fair is an exciting initiative that explores this very concept"- Liz Forsyth, Chief Executive, YWCA of Adelaide
