Friends of Bangladesh fund landless rural women and youth to train as grassroots organisers in Dhaka to empower their
communities.
Rural landless peasants are extremely vulnerable to climate change impacts, forcing migration from flooded and drought-effected fields. Landless women
are specifically more vulnerable to these hazards since they often have economic reliance on men and face gender-based discrimination and exploitation.
Just this September, our training program for grassroots activists started. Thanks to all the generous donations thus far that have helped make this
happen! We are pretty excited that the program has begun in Bangladesh and are thinking about the next one to begin in six months time. But, we can't do this without your help.
If your country was one of the most vulnerable to climate change, a circumstance beyond your control - beyond any one individuals control
- would you want support from those with the means to do so?
Yes. Of course you would.
80% of Bangladeshis are dependent on agriculture for their livelihoods. Already under enormous strain, they face increasing threats due to climate change
and speculation in agricultural commodities. You can help support the work being done to keep their farming viable and sustainable and ensure that the poorest people are given land.
We, as Australians, are living in one of the wealthiest countries on the planet. As a country whose government
is taking steps backwards in respect of climate change, we need to take matters into our own hands and attempt to relieve our climate debt to developing countries such as Bangladesh.
How your donation will make a difference
In buying this illustrated 12-month Calendar or any of the other gifts listed, you are funding a project that directly supports Bangladeshi communities
most vulnerable to climate change. Plan your year and help us plan the next year of our training program!

THE PHOTOGRAPHY BOOK: Bangladesh Land and People
Beside the calendar, we are doing a limited re-print of this sell-out photography book from our
last crowdfunding campaign, which raised over $10k. This gorgeous hardcover book shows a rich collection of stories – of hope and despair, of the difficult realities of life and inspiring spirit to surmount them – from the nation of Bangladesh. The people
and the land of this country come alive through vivid images, which are accompanied with brief background information, spread across 80 pages. A final section details inspiring groups working for change and avenues for support. A great accompaniment to the
calendar and a perfect christmas present!
If you would like to see a 20 page preview of the book, it is here:
