Equity Weaver Fund- 2022
When we are reshaping the systems we live in to make the ones we want, there are gaps and imperfections along the way.
This fund is setting out to address one of these gaps in 2022 - the lack of financial reward for people doing some of the most important systems change work.
There is someone amongst us who has arrived at a point in their life where this is the only work they want to do... and they do it amazingly well.
Moira Were brings a gender and impact lens to everything she does and she is setting out to address the gaps in the eco system as she goes. Some examples of her everyday attention include tackling the gender investment gap, the lack of impact investment and accessible credit. Some of this is visible and 95% it is unpaid. From South Australia’s Entrepreneurship Advisory Board, as a founder of Collab for Good hosting conversations and action for scores of people across the country, ChooksSA (a closed facebook community of over 3000) and The Hen House (a coop setting out to close the gender investment gap), and as catalyst for impact investment with Social Impact Investment Network South Australia and of course at SouthStart.
Then there is the invisible work she does all the time, the ten or more people she coaches, supports, connects, champions, lifts up, nurtures every week to supercharge change in the equity ecosystem. We know through Moira hundreds of people benefit each year.
We don’t have a system that has a natural way of rewarding someone playing this role. It’s time to experiment with how to do this. She does this out of love and commitment. Maybe we return the favour with love and a little cash. The Equity Weaver Fund 2022 aims to raise $20,000 or more to support Moira’s work improving equity.
“Shhhhhhh” she doesn’t know about this. The aim is to surprise her at the end of South Start (Australia's impact and innovation festival).
There is a small group of champions around this campaign that in November this year will meet with Moira and report back to you on the impact on the fund. We’ll consider what next for Moira, for the fund (maybe it needs to be offered again for others in the system) and work out where to from here.
If Moira has opened a door, connected, validated, nurtured you or expanded on your ideas, coached you, partnered with you, challenged you, inspired you, taught you... then why not support this campaign in return.
You'll know what's right for you given covid, your family, your business and job security. It might be the equivalent of a $5 cup of coffee or a $20 meal. (The more people the merrier, you'll be part of the decision making about what next for this fund). We are assuming for many established professionals $200 or so might be a reasonable amount and at that rate we only need 100 people to reach our target. If you are someone for whom abundance flows, you might actually want to be much more generous.
(and yes these rewards are a stretch...we needed to put something here to get the site up and the main thing is to reward her for work underway ...and she's worth it)
