Deejai means “joy” in english. Deejai is a non-profit social enterprise founded by three MBA students from Thammasat Business School, who want to provide access to education resources to teachers and
students in less fortunate schools in Thailand. Most Thai public schools offer education from pre-school level to high-school level. However, for some small public schools located in the rural areas, they provide education up to grade 9. It is very common
that these schools have limited budget from the government. Nearly 10,000 schools in Thailand do not even have enough basic materials such as stationery, color pens and notebooks. Lack of educational resources make it more difficult for teachers to teach,
and so can result in slow academic progress of these students. Deejai wants to provide access to education resources that teachers and students want, by matching donors to teachers' projects.
Our first campaign is to provide education toys for pre-school students. From talking to the teachers, we found that more than 80% of students at kindergarten year come from low income and divorce families.
Some of them were brought to schools since there were 3 years of age. Most of their parents work as minimum wage workers, and they do not have time to interact or teach their children, so for a rural community the school is the place where young kids can gain
their skills.
We visited 8 schools in the remote regions of Thailand, and talked to the teachers. All teachers faced the common problem of lacking education resources for kids in the classrooms to improve literacy
skills. From talking to the teachers, they see education toys such as reading board games and word jigsaws are wonderful means of attracting children to the world of learning. Education materials or toys help to create interactive learning environment necessary
for kids at this age to engage and develop their basic skills. However, with limited budget, the schools have not budget to purchase them. So, we are asking you to help us providing each of these schools a set of educational toys that help to improve early
literacy skills. Each set costs USD 200, so we are pledging for USD 1,600 baht.
Each set will contain 10 pieces of materials, such as interactive board games, vocabulary games, and word jigsaws, enough for all kindergarten kids at each school to share and use. Please please please help us to make it real.
Thank you so much for your support!
