River Bend Mission Team and Crisfield, Maryland
We want to encourage people to think beyond themselves and have a heart for serving others. We also want to help people who have been affected by disaster or just bad luck get a leg up. We believe society is stronger when the people in
it are stronger. To do this, we take teams of adults on short term mission trips and help rebuild homes after they have been damaged by natural disasters.
Remember in 2012 when Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast? New York and New Jersey got a lot of much needed volunteers. Another town that also received a lot of damange, but much less publicity, was Crisfield, Maryland.
In 2013, we took a team of volunteers to Crisfield and helped get a home owner one step closer to getting back into her home. (We actually helped by tearing down the unlivable house so future volunteers could help her get back into a home.) It was an amazing
week and we felt like we got a lot done and experienced a great team community.
On October 11th we are leaving again for Crisfield. We are donating a week of our time and working on projects assigned to us through Sommerset County Long Term Disaster Recovery. We don't know what we will be doing and won't know until we get there. It
could be anything from mucking out basements to drywall/sheetrock to roofing to finishing work. (or maybe tearing down another house?) This team is has volunteers coming from four different states, an age range of 19-76 years old, representing six different
churches, but all coming together for the common purpose of serving those who might not get the help otherwise. (or at least it would take longer)
We believe that people are generally good, and when we see each other in need, we try to help if we can. But a lot of people don't know how. We do. And we wan to include you. If you can't donate a week of your time, perhaps you could donate a chunk of
change.
