Water Filtration systems will be set up in small remote villages in Timor Leste that currently have no access to safe and clean drinking water.
Our Story
This June we are taking a small group of people on a walk through the villages surrounding Baguia in Timor Leste following the reforestation trail of the exemplary organisation With One Seed. With One Seed were recently approached by the local community to help them in develop a hike and expand opportunities for employment in the region through Eco tourism. Ours will be the first group of walkers to undertake the venture, and we hope to learn from the locals about their challenges, hopes and aspirations, and support them in setting up a sustainable tourism project for the future.
Our Goal
Before going we aim to raise at least $860 to buy 4 locally produced water filtration systems that we can leave in each village we stay each night. Even better, we would like to raise $1720 so that we can also give a system to every village where we stop for lunch.
These systems will be left in the villages providing access to clean water not otherwise available, and can be used by future walking groups
Water Filtration Systems
We will use a bucket system filter assembled from Sawyer Products which are super easy to assemble and operate and can produce anywhere
from 100-500 gallons per day depending on the water pressure and how dirty the
water is. These filters have a 1 million gallon guarantee because
unlike most filters which require replacement cartridges, their hollow fiber
membrane technology only requires a simple back flushing using a syringe with
cleans water when the filter slows down.
Who we are:
CERES Global is a project within CERES Community Environment Park in Melbourne exploring global equity and the well‐being of people and the environment internationally. It has a special focus on working with communities to find solutions to environmental and climate change challenges. It also works to improve economic and social sustainability within these communities. CERES Global returns annually to each of the communities we visit, building rapport and friendship in order that we might work together in the future to overcome environmental and social challenges around the world.
WithOneSeed is the first internationally certified carbon farming program in Timor Leste. It is developing capacity for subsistence communities to replant forests, build local economies, delivering practical agroforestry and permaculture training to create a more equal and just world.
