With the increasing reports of racial vilification in our sport arenas, the allegations of racist attacks both on public transport and against foreign students it would appear that racism is deeply embedded
into the fabric of Australian society.
Our leadership during the Australian Federal election campaign are treating refugees as a political rather than humanitarian issue, while current anti-racist campaigns, such as ‘Racism: It Stops With Me’
are conversation stoppers and not conversation starters.
More needs to be done. There should be more open discussions about racism and cultural diversity, but how can we encourage our fellow Australians to engage themselves with this issue?
That is where ‘The Two Chairs’ comes in, by using art and creativity to cultivate conversations about race, racism and embracing our cultural diversity and differences.
The Two Chairs is a go-to-place, a social platform, to learn and contribute to open discussions about race and racism. We will be collecting people's thoughts and stories and use them
as a basis to generate various creative projects. The collection will inspire the creation of theatrical performances, short stories and other artworks.
