The Hygiene Pantry
Why We Exist
There is a gap in services provided to no-income, very-low income, and low-income persons within Van Buren County, Arkansas. In the local area, the Department of Health and Human Services provides Medicaid/Medicare and SNAP/EBT (formerly known as Food Stamps). While there are also Food Pantries which supplement the needs of nutrition, there is a gap between what SNAP/EBT and Food Pantries supply and what Medical Services provide which needs to be filled: Hygiene.
What We Do
Our goal is to fill the Hygiene gap, teach persons how to make their SNAP/EBT benefits last longer, and solve hinderances to employability in Van Buren County through our project. While it is great that SNAP/EBT, and Medicaid/Medicare are available, there has always been a gap of necessities which SNAP/EBT will not cover. For example: Soap, shampoo, toilet paper, feminine products, and diapers are all necessary items but none of them can be purchased using SNAP/EBT. We plan to distribute these, and other, items through our project.
How You Can Help
In order to more effectively contribute to our goals, we need to achieve 501(c)(3) status with our State and with the IRS, which means paying fees when we submit paperwork. We believe that filling the Hygiene Gap is the first step to increase employability among the poor in our area. With your assistance, we can achieve this goal and begin doing exactly that.
