Parramatta Mission and Thread Harvest have come together to create the Second Chance Partnership, a way for charities like Parramatta Mission to increase their revenue by leveraging their existing network of schools, churches, clubs and associations to gather clothing, shoes and accessories and selling them in an online op-shop. Thread Harvest brings the knowledge and the experience in the online retail space, along with their fulfilment partner, Avenue Co-Working who provide meaningful work for people with disabilities.
How does the partnership work?
You donate your pre-loved clothing to Parramatta Mission.
They send your donation to Thread Harvest who use a fulfilment provider that employ people with disabilities to sort, wash, shoot and tag your donations.
Then Thread Harvest upload and sell your pre-loved clothing online. 50% of the profit comes back to Parramatta Mission to enable us to continue to serve the community of Parramatta. It’s a full circle process.
What impact does this have?
This partnership will have a significant impact on:
- The environment benefits by the reduction in clothing sent to landfill.
- The homeless and domestic violence victims benefit by the increase in revenue for Parramatta Mission to run their programs.
- The marginalised benefit by receiving meaningful employment.
- The community benefits by being able to shop affordable clothing.
Why does a program like this matter?
According to Roy Morgan, Charitable giving is declining. This is leaving charities exposed, causing them to pull back on their services and unable to support those in need. At Parramatta Mission we knew we needed to do something, but we had limited resources to truly pivot our approach to funding. We receive clothing donations but had no way of selling this product. We could see physical retail suffering but knew we needed a new revenue stream. This is when we decided to work smarter, not harder.
In addition, the impact of Covid has been widespread and mainly felt by the disadvantaged. We are dedicated to helping those in need and we have experienced a large increase in the demand of our services since Covid began. As a result, we need to increase our revenue in order to better support those in need.
Real, lasting change is never the work of a single person, it takes all of us playing our part and doing our bit to create change. This is why Parramatta Mission partnered with Thread Harvest and Avenue. Through collaboration, every party involved is playing to their strengths and the impact is broadened. But we can't do it without YOU!
