When you learn about past civilisations you look to their art and culture, objects that speak to the people and values of the time. So why aren’t we better documenting art and culture in Australia’s growth regions, namely Western Sydney?
Culture is everywhere!
Innovation doesn't happen in isolation
Your support will help us to commission local writers to produce 23 articles specifically about the evolving arts and cultural scene in Parramatta.
We know that the historical under-resourcing of Western Sydney and Regional NSW in Federal and State Government budgets is real, because there are a number of reports that confirm it. These reports have led to recent shifts in Government funding priorities and private giving. However, without increased visibility and quality media attention, receiving organisations cannot build audiences and maintain sustainable business practices.
This is why independent media with content by local writers is so important. Together we can write ourselves into art history and increase the visibility of our creative communities. This visibility will help build a case for greater investment in the region's art and culture that cannot be ignored. The Arts is the business of ideas and storytelling; they help to build understanding and stronger communities, facilitate tough conversations and explore new ideas.

Who are we?
State of the Arts Media is the only digital art and culture guide specialising in greater suburban and regional communities. We publish a range of content including reviews, features, artist interviews and a culture guide to keep you in the loop with what’s on.
Are you tired of being spammed by mailing lists or just not knowing what is going on in your own region? So are we! It shouldn’t take one mailing list to find out what is happening in the major city's art scene and at least ten to track that in your own region. State of the Arts Media is your go to guide, centralising all of the amazing programs from greater suburban areas in the one place.
All of our content is developed by local writers, which means that it captures the significance and nuance of programs with a unmatched local perspective.
Our Instigators' Story
Natalie and Lucinda (left to right in image below) met at university. We bonded over the under representation of our vibrant local arts community in mainstream arts media and amongst our peers. Exhausted by constantly having to justify why the arts scene in Wollongong and across Western Sydney were just as valid as that in major cities, we decided to do something about it.
We set up as a social enterprise so that we can provide professional development opportunities to creatives that live in greater suburban and regional communities. They have told us that they feel disconnected from the conversation about Australian Art. Together, we can write ourselves into the narrative and make sure Australian Art is truly representative of our diverse communities.
