"i often use old clothes as pads so that i am able to walk to school and not miss out" ~ anonymous
"I am 13 years old and i am the breadwinner of my 2 younger siblings. I pick up cans, plastics to sell for a living to put food on the table and sanitary pads are a luxury i simply cannot afford" ~ anonymous
These are just some of the heartbreaking stories we have heard from fellow sisters. This project is about helping these young women with the simplest yet important needs which are sanitary pads so that they have one less thing to worry about.
Menstruation is an inevitable natural and biological point in life of females that does not come by choice. It is our duty as society to ensure that girls and women experience periods with dignity. The problems associated with failure to access sanitary wear are detrimental to one's health. Often, these girls have to resort to unhygienic alternatives such as old cloth, newspapers, cow dung etc. This could lead to yeast infections and vaginosis. It is estimated by UNICEF that at least 1 in 10 school going girls in Africa miss school because of reasons related to periods.
Because this natural process is on going, the goal is to provide pads for an entire year for the 32 girls that have reached out and with your help we will be able to supply even schools so that access is easier for everyone that is in need. These are mostly girls from poor families, child headed families and those with irresponsible guardians that fail to provide them with the requirements
Help us to make the lives of these girls easier by by lending a helping hand.
