Artful Dodgers Studios 'Reverberate' Compilation CD
Artful Dodgers Studios, a program of
Jesuit Social Services is raising funds to support the production and release of ‘Reverberate’, a compilation CD of songs by young musicians from our music program in November 2015. Our studio works with marginalised young people who may be experiencing
difficult circumstances – our music program works to give these young people a confident voice and shape their musical dreams into a reality. By relelasing this compilation we will:
*** Compile and document the high quality musical work that passes through our music studio every day, written and performed by young people aged 15-27.
*** Give our cohort of young artists a professional experience and physical product of their work to promote their work and showcase their music to a wider audience
*** Involve young people in the process of creating an album, as well as working on the launch event, learning studio techniques and production requirements for event organization.
*** Hold a launch event for our compilation during
Melbourne Music Week 2015, featuring performances by our young artists.
What we are planning to do, and why this will make a difference
Melbourne hosts one of Australia’s largest and growing communities of young musicians, while in tandem facing a growing set of problems such as youth homelessness, poverty, unemployment, cultural dislocation, lack of support for mental health issues and
subtance use. Artful Dodger’s cohort of young people sit at the juncture between these two anomalies – musicians facing serious life roadblocks between their talent and recognition of that talent. We aim to bridge the gap, to supply a safe and artistically
innovative creative space to help young people turn their inspirations into actions.
'Reverberate' will aim to provide our young people with what will be, for many, the first time their music has been validated and released to a wider audience. This is important for confidence building, professional development and has longer term impacts
on their future choices.
We see the power of music to transform lives every day in our music studio. Our free-for-use recording studio and music making equipment makes what would otherwise be pipe dreams a definite reality for our growing cohort of singers, guitarists, rappers and
djs, all of whom work with our staff of arts practitioners to plan out and realize their creative projects.
We want to share this magic with the world. We know our space fosters excellent work from a unique cohort of talented musicians, but we also want to show the rest of the world a little preview into the real-world magic that happens here.
But we can’t do it alone.
Our campaign looks to humbly cover the most basic costs of putting together this compilation, which has the capacity to really change lives. We are looking for supporters to help us raise funds for the duplication and pressing of our CD, the costs to professionally
mix and master our artists’ work for release, and the production, venue hire and execution of a launch event, whereby our musicians will be given a professional opportunity to perform as part of the program for Melbourne Music Week 2015.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Your contributions to this venture will pay for the most basic essentials to get this CD off the ground, including
*** Duplication and pressing of 500 copies of 'Reverberate'.
*** Recording time in our music studio for our young people to hone their works and have them professionally mixed and mastered.
*** Production costs to launch the CD at an event during Melbourne Music Week 2015.
*** Promotion and distribution of our CD to similar organisations, radio stations, public broadcasters, libraries, schools and other social justice and educational institutions throughout Australia.
To give you a picture of how your donations make real and actual impacts to our project, we've broken down what each donation leve we are offering could potentially fund:
$15 - The cost of printing 2 cds
$30 - The cost of printing 5 Cds
$50 - Rehearsal session for an act to prepare for the launch event
$100 – Covers the costs involved to make one song for the album (including recording and mixing)
$500 - Pays the production costs for our launch event
$1,000 – Pays for production and promoyion costs for our launch event
$2,000 - Pays for the professional mixing of every song on the album and pressing 500 copies of the CD
