Help Create Employment Opportunities for People with Disability in the Philippines
Difficulty of getting employment in the mainstream job market is a major problem of people with disability in the Philippines. This is due to social discrimination, problem in mobility, physical limitations and lack of education. Because of this situation,
many people with disability are still very dependent to their families and are beset with poverty.
Hence, many PWDs opted to come together and form self help groups like cooperatives and social enterprises wherein they produce their own products and deliver various services. The various products and services can be seen at
http://lolitagelle.wix.com/pwdlink. These are the initial services and we hope more organizations of PWDs will enlist their products and services to PWDLink.
However, there are many challenges faced by PWD groups such as the following:
1. Lack of working capital to continuously produce the products and deliver the services they have started
2. No funds for marketing and promotional activities thus, only few people know about the product and services. Without the market, the business simply stops operating.
This peer raising campaign aims to achieve the following:
1. Provide employment to at least 500 people with disabilities. All those managing these endeavors and activities are people with disability as well.
2. Support the sustainability of various livelihood of people with disability towards full economic independence and empowerment
3. More and more social enterprises of PWDs come out and enlist their products and services to PWD Link.
In order to achieve the objectives, the following activities will be implemented:
- Marketing and Promotion
- Strengthen/ professionalize marketing and promotion strategies (email, website, social media/networking)
- Increased visibility in the public of advertisements (flyers, tarpaulins, newsletter)
- Seek appointments and meetings with various companies
- Organize bazaars
- Produce sample products and do promotional gimmicks
Needing Support for Revolving Working Capital for the production of the following products
- Ecobags, souvenir bags and other souvenir items
- Printing Services
- School Chairs
- Educational toys and jeepney souviniers ( all made of woods)
NOTE: REPEAT ORDERS FROM COSTUMERS WILL ACHIEVE EMPLOYING MORE THAN 500 PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY IN THE PHILIPPINES
