Why It Matters
According to the President's Advisory Council on Financial Literacy -
Financial illiteracy is not an issue unique to any one population. It affects everyone: men and women, young and old, across all racial and socioeconomic lines. No longer can we stand by and ignore this problem. The economic future of the United States depends on it.
It is, however, a subject matter that is not being addressed in our mainstream curriculum across this nation. Our youth spend 12-14 years in our educational system with the ultimate goal to graduate with the ability to go into the work force and earn an income; yet we spend no time actually educating them on how to make decisions with that income.
Eliminating the financial literacy education from our public school systems is NOT working. Pennies on Purpose will ensure that students are not only equip to handle the future income they receive, but in fact, make confident decisions that affect very serious issues in our nation.
Our Story
Pennies On Purpose is a 501(c)3 that is dedicated to bringing formal financial literacy back into the classroom for our nations youth. Our programs will begin in 4th grade, 8th and 11th grade classrooms and will be taught by finance experts who come into the classroom once a month throughout the 10 month school year.
Our mission with Pennies On Purpose is to reach every student in America and beyond to empower and equip them with the skills and knowledge to make confident financial decisions that positively impact themselves, their families, their community and their world.
The Vision
Founded in 2016 by Trisha Funk, CFEI, Pennies On Purpose is the culmination of her 17 years experience in the financial industry. Her experiences in those years of teaching financial literacy workshops lead to a profound understanding of how ill equip the general population is at making positive financial decisions. Through Pennies on Purpose, she has created a model that can reach far beyond the boarders of Shasta County to alter the future of an entire generation.
How You Can Help
The entire reason extra programs have been cut from our educational system boils down to the fact that the teachers are overburdened and underfunded. Programs like this could not happen for our youth without your generous desire to bring this level of education to them where they are. But besides your tax deductible financial support you can help us spread the word. You can share the campaign across your own networks and you can connect with us on our social media channels to stay up to date. And Lastly, you can request Pennies On Purpose to be implemented at a school or youth organization you're already affiliated with.
