Participation is the new consumption!
Please help me self publish this book, to validate the very ethos of 'Participation is the new Consumption'.
Yes, I know, there's nothing new in self-publishing a book, we can all do that now. But, have you thought about what's after the self-publishing? Now that we all have a voice what does that mean to society, to business, government, and to you?
We are at a time of new models, strategies and leadership. This project kick starts that new direction, where new thinking, creativity and innovation is the norm.
This is a participatory process of content and ideas which will be revealed over the course of the campaign.
What this book all about?
This is a book about the end of the command control era of the 20th Century and the beginning of the new era of the regeneration of community, of finding your purpose, and of your own individual empowerment.
The Internet and our interconnectedness is the key driver of this and facebook and twitter are only indicative of the social structures and constructs for new business models, strategies and leadership.
The Participation is the new Consumption book will:
- Joining the dots of what is emerging on the edges,
- How this will affect you long-term, and
- Show you the path to what it means to you.
What they say:
"We are in the midst of a Big Shift that is transforming our global business landscape. Michelle Williams has been playing a key role in helping us to rediscover our agency - the fact that we each must move from being passive observers and consumers to
active participants helping to shape the world around us. This has deep implications for all of us as individuals but it also will profoundly change how we do business. Her research, analytic frameworks and stories will help us to both make sense and make
progress in what can appear to be a world of turmoil and uncertainty. Your agency begins now - help to make this book a reality." -
John Hagel, Chair of the Silicon Valley based Centre for the Edge.
"As an educator, I have seen the emergence of the participation revolution in universities across the world. We have moved from treating students as empty vessels waiting to be filled with knowledge, to active agents and participants in their education -
and as a result, they have thrived. The difference is fundamental for the future of our economy, society and culture.
But this is not a trend limited to the world of education, it crosses industries - and those who have adapted, have thrived. Michelle is at the centre of this this disruptive change - and it is an exciting time to be part of it. Her vision, presented through
this book, gives us a roadmap to a world whose roads are yet to be built." Prof. James Arvanitakis, author, academic activist, winner of the 2012 Prime Minister's
University Teacher of the Year
"The role we can play in society is changing. We are no longer passive consumers but empowered participants who can create, share, collaborate and exchange in ways never possible before. I am curious to read Michelle's exploration into what this means for
us individuals looking at the benefits and the pitfalls we need to overcome in a new participation driven world." Rachel Botsman, social innovator, author and speaker.
'Michelle Williams is a woman with a big vision for a different way for us to engage with our world. Drawing on her rich perspective of what no longer works in business and governance, in her book, Participation is the New Consumption, she offers us
a new way to be more connected to ourselves and each other; and to use the gifts of technology to be more empowered. Every now and then someone speaks the truth about a future we can't quite envisage. This is an important book at a crucial time in our evolution.' -- Joanne
Fedler, accomplished author of 9 books, including global bestseller When Hungry, Eat.

Participation is the new Consumption is my personal book, and a statement about how the big picture changes are a massive opportunity for you. It's about your role as an active, aware, participant, able to design your world, worklife and community and enabling
you to contribute more meaningfully.
This project is a collection of research, community input and content collected over 2 years, with thousand's of attendees at events, interviews, online discussions, collaborations and projects. The Participation Economy event series is documented here http://bit.ly/particip8history
In recent years I have positioned myself at the very epicentre of social, government, business, media and community. Many can see a new way yet seem to get stuck in old thinking, old models and old tactics. This book is a guide for the new thinking, new
opportunities and your role in all of that.
