Kalimantan, in Indonesia, is one of the
Lungs of the Earth – rainforests are everywhere! Yet each year, more and more land is cleared for farming and over-development. Habitat is shrinking – the rivers are
being poisoned with mercury from gold mining.
Every year, children end up in hospital
due tosmoke inhalation from the burning forests.
And Orangutans, a local icon, are being pushed deeper and deeper into the jungle.

Yayasan
Permakultur Kalimantan is an Indonesian organisation helping turn things around. Through their workshops, public education campaigns, and active demonstration site, they're
showing local people a better way to live. This November they've invited
Curious Legends to create a collaborative street theatre performance
that addresses these issues with the local community.
Old
Man of the Jungle
Giant puppets,
ritual Indonesian masks, dance, audience interaction, and live music will combine in a multi-artform performance that blends ancient Indonesia
with contemporary Australian theatre. We'll be working with local villagers, Dayak elders, ethnic musicians, Indonesian artists, and 3 primary schools to create
a performance which will tour the region!
We expect the full project to impact on thousands of people. But that's just the start – this
project is a launching point for Yayasan Permakultur Kalimantan
in the region. The project's
true legacy
will be a cleaner environment for all of us to live in –
and the preservation of Kalimantan's unique environment for generations to come.

How Can You Help?
While we've received some funding from the Australian Government, its not enough to bring this project to completion. The utter awesomeness of what we're trying
to achieve depends on YOU! Here's what you get for being involved:
Rewards
$10 – A big thank you on our website & social media! Every little bit helps.
$25 – We'll send you a special post card from our crew in Kalimantan – from our rehearsal studio to you, with love.
$50 – You'll get a personalised group video message from all of us in Sukumulya, Kalimantan.
$100 – We'll ship you a hand-crafted spoon made from recycled Ulin timber, and created by local Dayak elder Kai (grandfather) Enan.
And we'll send you all of the above!
$500 – One of our giant puppets will be named after you, and we will send you a video of us performing with it!
$1000 – And for $1,000? You join us in the show! We'll make a life-sized puppet version of you, and perform with it when we tour Kalimantan. After the project we'll return this puppet to the Kalimantan soil in a glorious fire celebration! You'll receive
a video of us performing with your puppet avatar, and of the fire ceremony at the end.
