WHAT IS MIGHTY GOOD UNDIES?
We created Mighty Good Undies to prove Fairtrade organic cotton is:
- Accessible to everyone (read: it’s super affordable)
- More comfortable than conventional cotton (read: it’s super soft),
- Important
It’s all part of our appeal to make Fairtrade organic cotton mainstream in our high street retailers.
WHAT ARE WE TRYING TO DO?
Mighty Good's ambition is to build a strong Australian Fairtrade organic cotton brand that engages consumers about how they view, understand and consume cotton.
Our goals for this crowd funding campaign are really simple.
WE WANT TO MAKE UNDIES. We want to raise enough funds to place our first range of order of 3 styles of black underwear with our manufacturers. These styles are: the men’s trunks, women’s boy leg and the women’s granny (full) briefs. If we raise more funds than our goal then we can start placing more orders for more styles.
WE WANT TO SHOW THEM OFF. We want to take the Mighty Good Brand to the Berlin Ethical Fashion Show in July 2016 so that we can find retailers for our beautiful range.
WE WANT TO SEE CHANGE. Our non-financial objective, which is as equally important, is to demonstrate to large Australian retailers, and beyond, that ethical garment production is possible, profitable, and that there is a broad demand for this type of product.
WHY SHOULD YOU SUPPORT MIGHTY GOOD UNDIES?
YOU GET A GREAT PAIR OF UNDIES. Everyone needs undies.
YOU ARE SUPPORT COTTON FARMERS AND THEIR FAMILIES. We are organic AND Fairtrade. Our cotton is not only organic – but it is purchased on Fairtrade terms, which means that the farmers who grow the cotton get a good price for their product and get additional funds to implement great projects in their communities.
WE ARE THE REAL DEAL. That means: we are certified. Our supply chain is certified under the Global Organic Textiles Standard (GOTS), and the Fairtrade Labelling Organisation (FLO) Cotton Standard – together they are considered the ‘gold standard’ of ethical textile production across the world.
WE ARE AFFORDABLE. Our price is benchmarked against current mainstream brands, which means that more people can afford to purchase an ethical product.
WE ARE CHANGING THE WORLD. ONE UNDIE AT A TIME. Our business model proves to big retailers that ethical supply chains can work. Through our supply chain and affordable price points, we are proving to retailers that organic Fairtrade cotton is financially viable.
WE ARE KEEPING THE AIR CLEAN. We pair our undies with a 1 kg carbon offset. We have matched up each pair of underwear with an internationally certified carbon emissions offset program using “Gold Standard” emission reductions sourced for us by the South Pole Group.
WE ARE HELPING THE COMMUNITY. Every purchase helps us support health and education programs in our Mighty Good Undies supply chain.
SO WHAT DO YOU GET?
YOUR NEW UNDIES ARE:
- Made from 95% super soft-on-the-skin organic cotton and 5% elastane for fit and durability
- Styles, fits and shapes sure-fire tested and scrutinised by our friends and peers to ensure the perfect fit
- Brushed elastic on the waistband for extra comfort and style.
- We use eco-friendly and colourfast dyes that are suitable for washing in cold water.
- Five different underwear styles for women and 2 different styles for men in black, nude and white.
- Styles to suit all shapes and sizes from size 6 to sizes 20 for women and sizes XXS to XXL for men.
- No dangerous chemicals used in the production process meaning that there are no dangerous chemical residues on the fabric when you wear them
WHAT STYLES CAN YOU CHOOSE FROM?
We want to go to market with all of our 9 styles. However, to get our prices down and still use an ethical supply chain, we need to order 1000 pairs of underwear per style -- that is alot of undies! Each style costs us a minimum of $6,000 to order.
To manage the risks with production, our 'tipping point' budget is enough to fund just 3 styles of underwear, from which you will get to choose your rewards. These are:
- Women's boy leg briefs
- Women's granny knickers
- Men's trunk
With your support, we can move beyond our tipping point budget and order more styles for you to choose from!
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
There are many reasons why we are doing this....so instead of boring you with the stats and facts, we thought we'd make a little video about it!
OKAY, FOR THOSE THAT DO LOVE THE FACTS AND STATS, HERE ARE SOME SCARY ONES:
- An average cotton t-shirt generates 5 kg of CO2e, uses enough energy to power an energy efficient light bulb for about 4,300 hours and uses over 6,300 litres of water.
- Research by Consulting firm McKinsey has estimated that if all the pollution from cotton was factored into its price, the price would rise by about 500%!
- Some of the chemicals used in the production process end up in the underwear and can be absorbed into your body or washed out into our waterways.
- About 170 million children work in as child labourers around the world -- many of them in the textiles sector.
- Since 2012, over 1,500 people have died in fires in garment factories.
WHY ORGANIC + FAIRTRADE COTTON?
The world produces about 24.5 million tonnes of cotton every year, and less than 0.5% is organically grown. So why is it important that we increase this percentage:
- Organic cotton has about half the CO2 emissions from conventionally grown cotton.
- Organic farming avoids harmful chemical fertilisers and pesticides, and helps to protect health of the farmers and makers.
- Fairtrade cotton means that the farmers who grow the cotton can earn a decent living from their work and have the resources to invest in their businesses and communities.
- Organic cotton uses just 9% of the amount of surface and ground water(i.e. lake or river water) compared to conventional cotton.

ABOUT US
Founded by friends in 2015 by UK based Hannah Parris, and Sydney based Elena Antoniou, the inspiration for MIGHTY GOOD UNDIES came from the need to create an every-day product that would promote organic and Fairtrade cotton in a mainstream market. The result blossomed into a brand that offers quality basic mens and women’s underwear with strong ethical and environmental principals.
Hannah’s first-hand experience with ethical fashion design and supply-chains in India led her to an internationally recognised supplier of organic and Fairtrade produced cotton, Chetna Organics and its production partner, Rajlakshmi Cotton Mills.
With Elena’s creative business background as PR Agency Owner and Fashion Designer, Elena knew she wanted to venture into an ethical brand that did more than just produce garments, but shaped consumers ideas on what was ‘fashionable’ and empower them to make better choices.
With Hannah and Elena’s combined industry knowledge and passion to make Fairtrade and organic cotton mainstream, the Mighty Good Undies journey began.
