Our project resolves to create an exhibition that will highlight corrective rape in South Africa. Rape is endemic in South Africa. One gruesome statistic – every 26 seconds another rape occurs. Corrective rape is uniquely contemptible because of the overriding
motivation behind it. It attempts to change someone's sexual preference by extreme force.
Mafuane and Thandiwe are two lesbian women from Cape Town anxious to share their stories and lives with an international audience.
Our exhbition will feature photography, field recordings, documents, film and text. Elements to bring our audience as close as possible to the lives of Mafuane and Thandiwe.
The exhibition will travel from Cape Town to Dublin to Berlin and Sao Paulo initially and then we plan to extend it to more countries. Our nomadic exhibition will sensitise people to this abuse and apply pressure on South African law makers to have corrective
rape reclassified as a hate crime.
Your help will get it started.
