Personal, Professional and Social skills for migrants and refugees
Dealing with the complexities of personal and social independence is a key experience for every young migrant and refugee in Australia. The lack of homely comfort, language barriers, cultural differences and local support leaves underrepresented young people feeling out of control and misunderstood. Most choose isolation or unsustainable dependencies as coping methods. The students of the All Hands Life Skills program learn life skills to alleviate isolation, unhealthy dependence and lack of self-esteem. We provide learning journeys for students to practice sustainable independence - this means finding their style of being:
- physically and emotionally healthy
- financially independent
- professionally impactful
- socially proactive
"It is one of the best programs I have gone through in a while. The opportunity of being a part of All Hands doesn’t give you an opportunity to learn about the people around you but helps you develop deeper insights into your own behaviours and tap the power of Social and Emotional Intelligence to help us become the best versions of ourselves. The follow-up support is remarkable, including unlimited access to fun activities and Coaches who truly care. I very highly recommend this program not just for students, but for anyone looking to accelerate personal growth."
- Manjot, Student of 2021-2022, Abbotsford, Canada

- focus on more than applying for interviews
- understand their rights and options as employees
- be curious, creative and impactful before being a hard worker
Learning outcomes:
The Big 5 Goals - students learn about managing time, energy and other resources on emotional, physical, financial, professional, and social goals. Students develop their style of taking care of themselves and others in 4x experiment-style sprints with peers and coaches. Each month, a Student Impact Report (also sent to donors) outlines developments across 7 life skills:
- Emotional Regulation
- Productivity
- Collaboration
- Open-Mindedness
- Communication
- Compound Skills - Critical thinking, Self-efficacy, Self-Reflection, Citizenship behaviour
- Social impact
Sustainable Habits - [pre-requisite: The Big 5 Goals Impact Report] to begin this course, students are expected to report medium to high levels of confidence in designing and practising experiment styles every fortnight. During these 3 months, students design and practice a routine for at least 3 weeks in a row. A routine consists of daily and weekly habits focused on the long-term maintenance of personal health, resources and relationships. In the end, students will have learned how to design personalised routines that build self-confidence and resilience.
Habits System - [pre-requisite: The Big 5 Goals + Sustainable Habits Impact Reports] to begin this course, students are expected to report evidence of a minimum of 1 sustainable habit per goal. In the final 3 months of the learning program, students attempt to solve a real-world social problem funded by our corporate and social impact partners. This real-world project will align with their goals and habits. At the end of these 3 months, students would have completed the following quests:
- Design the first version of your Habits System
- Build 2 coinciding social circles
- Showcase your learning skills - a story about unlearning, learning and re-learning
- Showcase your management skills - a story about personal preference towards resources, planning, consistent practice, reflection and relationships.
Who We Are
All Hands is a cooperative between individuals and communities that create social impact through sustainable practices. Our partners are key in connecting us to relevant mentors and coaches. Our community of mentors and coaches personalise students' learning journeys so they're as valuable as the students themselves.
Why It Matters
While counselling, therapy and professional coaching are impactful approaches - these options are expensive, time-consuming and often stigmatised in most families and communities.
The All Hands program teaches life skills to young people who are underrepresented in Australian communities. We use learnings from design thinking, psychology practices and James Clear's book Atomic Habits in an online/face-to-face setting. The program costs just 1/10th of a typical self-development coaching thanks to our partners who are coaches, peer supporters and mentors.
Our partners donate at least an hour weekly to deliver an impactful learning experience. They help students build personal, social and professional habits with a self-motivated approach. Together, we have coached students in Bangladesh and Canada to find meaning and be impactful.
How You Can Help
With support from The City of Parramatta Council and StartSomeGood, our community integration program needs AUD15,000 to enrol 100 underrepresented students in the next 60 days. With your donation, our life skills coaching program can continue to help students find independence regardless of their current situation.
Your donation today can improve the quality of a young person’s life.
