THE KIDS ON COUNTRY program brings together indigenous children, elders, artists and scientists on a journey in the Great Western Woodland.
The initiative has been developed with the traditional owners and children of the Great Western Woodland in the Goldfields region of Western Australia.
The children are exploring this vast area with the Millennium Kids Inc www.millenniumkids.com.au team, to discover their culture and their language, learn from elders round the campfire and then share their stories with the world. They have been monitoring wildlife, looking at the impact on special places and creating their vision for the future. As the ones who will inherit the responsibility for this land they are expressing their vision for the future of the area.
Through a creative process the children will work with indigenous, botanical, and landscape artists to create an exhibition of work that shares these special places with the wider world. The children want to engage a filmmaker to capture their on country experience, following them on their journey, inspiring the question “ What do we want for the future generations?”
The film will interplay with stories of the past, the present and the future, capturing the children’s learning, the artists at work and the development of the exhibition works, highlighting the children’s vision for the future of the Woodland.
‘‘’THE WORLD SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS PLACE’’.
