Our story
Our story begins long ago, but really got interesting five years ago. I was one of those people who believe that the food you eat affects the quality of life you live. This is easily apparent on a personal level, and harder to ignore on a population level. The foods we choose to eat affect the wellbeing of our bodies and planet. And it is a delicious planet, but for some weird reason, lots of attention had been poured into making cheap, toxic foods. The choices available measuring up to a standard for health, were most often a big compromise in taste :( sad face.
My daughter acquired some weird rash which developed when she was two, and grew and grew. Gradually we got closer to finding the source of inflammation, no thanks to her. We took her to doctors, dermatologists, naturopaths, kinesiologists, and osteopaths, we tried eliminating dairy, soy, corn, gluten, we tried elimination, gaps, and paleo diets. It was incredibly hard for her. The poor girl! We asked her to follow our suggestions, that she avoid the foods thought to trigger the flare ups. Weirdly, she just wanted to eat yummy foods. As much as we could make this happen at home, when we were out, the good choices were just compromises for her.
That really sucks. Have you ever tried to convince a five year old that a non dairy, cane sugar free desert is going to be as good as a good old ice cream cone? - It doesn't go down well.
Five year olds don't want to compromise, they want to enjoy what the are doing, regardless of external factors.
We should be as uncompromising.
The best foods for us, should be uncompromising.
Uncompromising in taste, and nourishment.
unfortunately, greedy bastards have compromised creation of food for profit.
So I'm joining the fight back, to make foods which taste better than the crap those unscrupulous aholes make. i'm making coconut ice cream, so good that a five year old would choose it regardless of its ethical or nutritional impact, and so good that you choose it for uncompromising indulgence.
Why It Matters
This project began as a way to support the healing of my daughters digestive system. It was so hard to find alternatives to the ubiquitous ice cream for her to enjoy. Reading product labels and saying no whilst your 5 yr old just wants to eat ice cream is not fun for anybody.
We created an indulgent desert that wasn't an alternative to ice cream, its the preferred choice!
Not everyone has the same requirements for a healthy body, ours were gluten free, dairy free and no refined sugars. Those things led to bad fallout. I know that we aren't in this food sensitivity boat alone, so I decided to share the love, in hope that you and your family can enjoy good times, and good food as easily as the others do.
We made it line up with our ethics, incorporating local and native ingredients, organic produce, fair trade sources for supplies. Because nothing sucks the fun out of a good time like supporting child labour.
