Founded in the wake of the 2010 earthquake, Physicians for Haiti was created with the goal of empowering Haitian physicians, thereby supporting Haiti in a sustainable way as it builds back better. We have been inspired by
the talent, dedication and energy we have seen in our Haitian colleagues, and we believe that they are the cornerstone of a healthy, functioning and sustainable society.
Working alongside our Haitian colleagues has demonstrated to us the unique set of challenges facing Haitian physicians in the aftermath of the 2010 earthquake and the cholera epidemic, which are compounded by a lack of resources.
While there has been an influx of foreign medical aid in the period since the earthquake, little has been done to support Haitian doctors' efforts, which ultimately fosters dependency on foreign countries and undermines the Haitian medical system. Physicians
for Haiti is dedicated to addressing this problem by strengthening Haitian doctors' access to medical information and professional development resources, and is working to build partnerships and encourage learning between Haitian and American doctors.
As an important step towards this goal, P4H held its first annual Haiti-wide Medical Conference, “Edikasion pou Tout Moun” (“Education for All”), last year. The conference focused on the current state of medical education
in Haiti, included presentations from a variety of speakers from multiple countries, and involved discussion of innovative solutions to the challenges facing Haiti's health care professionals.
On December 9th 2012, we look forward to hosting our second major conference in Haiti, and to establishing a tradition of collaboration and learning. With the help of donors like you, we would like to expand the conference to reach
160 physicians--doubling the number of medical professionals involved. We believe that this conference is a valuable, tangible way to assist Haitian physicians, and to begin building lasting partnerships between Haitian and American doctors. Thank you for
your support!
