Asylum seekers and refugees need our help to make a home. They have escaped from war, tyranny and persecution to find safety in Australia, but they have arrived with nothing.
They need our help to make a home – with tables and beds, couches and fridges, plates, pots and pans – and to feel welcomed into a community filled with support and respect.
A unique partnership
The Bower Reuse & Repair Centre is partnering with Mums 4 Refugees to provide furniture and household items to asylum seekers. The Bower, an environmental charity in Marrickville, saves good quality usable furniture, household and electrical goods, bicycles and more from going to landfill. Mums 4 Refugees, a 100% volunteer grassroots organisation, are playing a crucial and excellent role in welcoming and integrating these asylum seekers in Australian communities.
With the Mums 4 Refugees networks and The Bower’s logistical capacity, together we can assist families with practical needs such as sourcing and delivering large furniture items.
But we need your help!
We want to raise $10,000 to provide ‘gift vouchers’ to asylum seekers, allowing them to select their preferred furniture and household items which will then be delivered via The Bower truck. By providing the opportunity to choose items, individuals and families can maintain their dignity. We can also provide gift vouchers for people to attend our skills-based workshops where people can learn a new skill such as carpentry or furniture repair.
