Our concern: 3 in every 5 schoolchildren in rural communities of the Niger Delta cannot read as a result of severely understaffed schools. This means that in a few years, there will be more illiterates than ever in the region. With the illiteracy rate approaching 60% in some communities, health and environmental sensitisation becomes even more difficult.
What are we doing about it? We have been organising a volunteer program that enables student-teachers from the university of education in the capital city to teach children in hard to reach rural communities how to read.
Our team: We are a youth-led rural charity based in the Niger Delta region. Our founding was inspired by the conviction to give back to the communities that sponsored our university education. We were once like the children we hope to give the opportunity of education. We have only been able to sponsor weekly transportation for 18 volunteer teachers at the moment.
How you can help: Donate to our crowdfunding campaign by selecting a reward from the list on the right. We are very grateful for your support.
