When Ian and Cat volunteered with a Portland homeless organization last spring, they noticed a lot of people expressing their creativity by drawing, journaling, and coloring. As people who believe creativity can help relieve stress and ease the mind, they wanted to help the community express and empower themselves creatively.
Our Project
The Day to Day Portland 2019 Calendar features 13 beautiful photographs of Portland, OR taken by the local homeless community.
In July, interested homeless adults and youths will be provided a basic photography lesson and single-use cameras to take photos around Portland. After a week, the cameras will be collected and the film will be developed. The photos are then judged and 13 will be chosen to be featured in the 2019 calendar. The Day to Day Portland 2019 calendar will launch In mid-November at a gallery opening showing the photographs taken by the homeless community.
The calendar is printed on 11 x 8.5" coated paper. They are printed in full color and coil-bind.
These calendars are high-quality and will be a great introduction to 2019 or gift for the holidays. There is nothing like starting the new year with a calendar that makes a difference in the beautiful "Rose City".
To make the calendars a reality, funds are needed for project expenses. The goal needs to be reached to start the process and production of the calendars. If we do not reach the tipping point, no funds will be processed and your account will not be charged.
Why It Matters
The goal of this project is to raise awareness to the increasing homeless population of Portland, OR. The Day to Day Portland calendar is a non-profit project. Money raised from this project will reward to the featured photographers (the cover page photographer will receive a reward of $100 and the 12 featured photographers, inside the calendar, a $50 reward) and to various homeless organizations in Portland, OR.
By purchasing and backing this campaign, you are empowering the Portland homeless community and providing an opportunity to engage with people, practice photography, and gain employment and selling experience. They are also given the chance to tell their personal stories and gain self-confidence.
In addition, to empowering the homeless community, the calendars also contribute to the local Portland economy. The calendars are made possible thanks to local Portland businesses.
