Indigenous art is our greatest cultural heritage. It’s a living, breathing tradition, that is still growing and flourishing today. It plays an important role in defining our emerging national identity, and it represents a positive, vibrant and
inclusive Australia on the world stage.
Indigenous Art Centres also play an integral role in communities across Australia. They are cultural keeping places, major employers,
social enterprises that are governed by Aboriginal people, they provide many different services to communities and are often a gateway to experiencing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, in some of Australia’s
most incredible and remote locations.
Help us provide opportunities for over 2000 artists and their Art Centres to connect with the world!
Help us share their incredible stories, culture, traditional practices, and their incredible contemporary art. Help us to support the vital role that our Art Centres play so that they can thrive and prosper, and continue to play a positive role in their communities.
For almost 10 years we've brought together more than 50 Art Centres from across Australia for the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair (DAAF). DAAF is a four day event where our Art Centres are given the opportunity to build relationships with collectors,
curators and commercial galleries and can sell directly to the public. For many artists, it is the first time that they have connected with audiences outside of their communities. It is the first time that they have had the opportunity to see the impact that
their work is having on people.
Over the past four years alone, DAAFF has generated over $4 million for the Indigenous Art Centres, with all sales going directly
back to their communities.
Next year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair and we want to make it bigger and better than ever, with more artists, more diversity and more excitement.
The money raised in this campaign will help us:
- Support more Art Centres and artists to attend the event
- Hold a fashion show showcasing incredible textiles and designs from our Indigenous Art Centres
- Provide more professional development opportunities for Art Centres and Artists
- Promote the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair to new national and international audiences
In the past, the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair has relied on government funding and self generated income to operate. However, in order for us to continue supporting the Art Centres and their artists, and to create an even bigger and better platform,
we need you to get behind us.
Be a part of preserving Australia’s Indigenous art legacy, and the culture and lives of over 2000 artists, in over fifty communities from across Australia.
Those who donate $100 will become daafFRIENDS (membership online, non tax-deductible)
daafFRIENDS is an exciting new ways to engage with and support the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair and connect with Art Centres, Artists and Arts Workers from across Australia all year round!
