Simply put, we will provide a blank canvas for a child’s imagination.
Our space will be equipped with a variety of artistic materials (largely contributed from second-hand goods or recycled materials where possible) and our staff of trained volunteers will encourage children to express themselves.
We have a “free range” philosophy with our staff, which is to say that we do not instruct students on what or how to create, but instead provide a setting to naturally stir their creativity. Our philosophy is based largely on the Reggio Emilia style of education.
And there's no need to stress about the mess – we encourage it!
We are applying for a grant from the City of Sydney to obtain our space. We're trialing this project in a "pop-up shop" style, which means we'll be open from 5-8 months before looking for a permanent home. (We're hoping to open by July but this is subject
to grant approval.)
Carers will attend with their children and this cost is:
$5 - Drop-in pass
$20 - 5-Visit pass
$100 - Unlimited pass (for the 5-8 month period)
You also have the option of purchasing a "buy one / give one" pass allowing a less advantaged child to attend. We believe our space should be accessible to any child, regardless of their background.
