Help use the art of film making as a tool for healing.
Cinema of the Oppressed exists to help people with disadvantaged backgrounds heal. This includes people from a migrant or refugee background, those facing homelessness, domestic violence or other emotional trauma.
My program provides a safe space for people to have the opportunity to learn the skill of film making to tell their own story. I believe that by sharing their own stories they can be provided the opportunity to heal.
I know this, because film making helped me.
My name is Mona Ibrahim and I started Cinema of the Oppressed in March 2017 to help me overcome anxiety and early depression. Making films based on my real life story helped me to reconnect with the world and see my life through a different point of view.
I want to share this with others.
I have written and directed 13 short films, been included in exhibitions and film festivals around the world.
