Casa Guatemala was first established in Guatemala City in 1977 to assist the malnourished, orphaned and abused children during the brutal civil war. The early efforts catalyzed the mission of the organization to provide a safe home with nurturing, health
care and an education for the children.
Since 1987, the Children’s Village located on the bank of the Rio Dulce has been a home and school for up to 150 children during the school year. It also provides educational and health care services to as many as an 150 additional children each year from
the surrounding Mayan villages who live in cases of extreme poverty that without Casa Guatemala would have no other option for an education.
The Children’s Village is a paradise filled with laughter, learning and love. Spanning over 100 acres of tropical jungle are the many buildings that make up the community.
These include separate housing for the boys and girls, local staff and volunteers. A primary school, library, carpentry shop, outdoor playing fields, a dining hall, medical clinic which also serves local villages and teaching farm.
Apart from the wide variety of produce grown, the farm raises Pigs, Chicken and Turkeys to feed the Children’s Village. The surplus of which is sold in the local community to aid in the self sufficiency of the project on a whole.
Over the last year Finca Guatemalas projects at Casa Guatemala have been able to significantly expand its Farm. With the renovation of the Greenhouse, vegetables can be grown year round and the reestablishment of the Chicken and Turkey Yard last fall has
increase the eggs and meat available to the children.
The funds raised through this campaign will enable us to Purchase additional Turkeys, complete restoration of the water fowl area and purchase 7 Mature Muscovy Ducks (1 male & 6 females). Also the ability to guaranty 16 months
of Quality Feed for not only the Ducks but Chickens and Turkeys as well will make it possible reach our goal of raising over 1,500 pound of meat in the next year.
Being a Teaching Farm the children not only benefit from the increase of food available to them at meals but also teaches them to provide for themselves and their families
