About This Project

2012 will be a a big year for the state of Wisconsin with
important elections, a possible recall of the Governor, and the potential for more protests . The main issue that we had during the protests of 2011 was a limited budget to help support everyone who was doing the hard work on the ground.

As we head into 2012 we're taking steps to solidify our
foundation. Part of this is establishing a pool of freelance reporters we can tap for in-depth coverage as it happens and continue to be an important source for bottom up reporting.

Use Of Funds

$3,500 Tipping Point Goal



dane101 has established itself in Dane County, Wisconsin as an important source for news that advances the public debate, and we plan to use that solid foundation to expand our mission to the rest of the state. The most important
piece of the new infrastructure we're building is confidence that we can compensate freelance writers for an entire year. By having that confidence, we can guarantee six to eight freelancers that they'll be receiving regular assignments every month.


If we reach our $3500 goal we'll be able to immediately start the search for two capable freelance writers. One would be focused expressly on the 2012 Presidential, Congressional, and possibly gubernatorial elections. The
objectives would traveling to campaign stops, tracking funding, and holding candidates accountable for statements made.


The second freelancer would work in the capital city of Madison and will be focused on what's happening under the dome. This will include looking at proposed bills and helping Wisconsinites understand how their communities
will be impacted. 


If we reach $7000 we can bring on two to three more freelancers. We've long been interested in issues of economic equality and race in Dane County and would seek a reporter that can cover those areas.


We'd additionally divide dollars between a freelance reporter in Milwaukee and a second in the Fox Cities. This will allow us to begin our next step of shrinking the state and show how legislation passed in Madison impacts
those two communities. These two freelancers would also be used to reinforce the work of our elections freelancer when candidates visit their regions of Wisconsin.


Finally, if we reach our $10,000 goal we'll use that to bring on two freelancers that will be used to enhance the election and legislation coverage.
