What are we doing?
Pallas Theatre Collective is a nonprofit theatre company in the Washington, DC area that celebrates emerging American voices in theatre. This fall, we are finishing off our fourth season with a production of
The Taming of the Shrew at the Anacostia Arts Center. We are using this campaign to secure funds for:
*** Rental fees for our space at the Anacostia Arts Center
*** Daytime performances so that school groups in the area may attend the show
*** Stipends for our actors, designers, and stage manager for the copious amounts of time they spend making this production unforgettable
*** Technical aspects of The Taming of the Shrew
– set, costumes, lights, and props
*** Other minimal administrative costs that go along with producing a play (posters, postcards, programs)
About our The Taming of the Shrew
This production of Shakespeare’s classic comedy, The Taming of the Shrew
is directed by Pallas Artistic Director Ty Hallmark. This production is set in her home state of Louisiana and highlights the quick-witted, playful, and romantic aspects of the play. Inspired by her bayou upbringing, Ty infuses
The Taming of the Shrew with a zydeco beat and nostalgia for “the good old days.” This production promises to be quick, humorous, and accessible to audiences of all ages.
The
Anacostia Arts Center is centrally located in the Anacostia neighborhood in Southeast Washington, DC. This will be the final show in our season (our last three productions were also at the Center, and you can read their great reviews
here,
here, and
here.), and we need YOUR help to make it happen!

The nitty gritty details
Our financial priorities are as follows: 1) Place, 2) People, 3) Production, and 4) Publicity.
1. Place
The Anacostia Arts Center is a beautiful new space in the heart of the neighborhood. We have been fortunate enough to be in its top-of-the-line, flexible, inviting Black Box Theater for our last three productions, and we cannot wait to return. We are currently
working on partnering with local schools so that we may offer performances for students, and provide opportunities for them to meet with the cast and talk about the work. We need a space to put on this production, plain and simple.
2. People
We are fortunate enough to have an incredibly talented group of artists working on
The Taming of the Shrew. They have stellar credentials and have worked at some of DC’s finest professional theatres. At Pallas, we strongly believe in paying our artists for their work – we want them to continue to pursue their dream, and we are so
thankful that they are working with us!
3. Production
To help bring Ty’s Louisiana love letter to life, we are creating a minimal, but enchanting set, clothing our actors impeccably, lighting them gloriously, giving them authentic props to use, and providing them with engaging sound design.
4. Publicity
We would love for the public to come see our production, and we need to print some publicity materials for that to happen, namely postcards and posters.
