1. Presentation of the NGO
The Burkina Association for the Survival of Childhood is a non-governmental organization created in 1991 with the objectives of fighting poverty and also working for the development and protection of women and children.
ABSE has two country offices namely Nigeria and Benin. It is an organization with special consultative status with ECOSOC since 2011.
2 What are we doing
ABSE is a humanitarian organization that is a member of the Cash Lerning Partnership (CaLP) and works with several other partners to help resolve the humanitarian crisis that Burkina has been facing for several years.
This humanitarian project aims to:
- Support the humanitarian rispost plan of the government of Burkina Faso;
- provide assistance to 150 internally displaced families in Burkina Faso who have been identified by the Ministry of Solidarity as particularly vulnerable and deprived families;
- Make a diagnostic report on the situation of internally displaced families living in particularly difficult situations (Handicapped, elderly people, injured during their flight, etc.)
The project will be implemented with the support of government authorities and partner organizations. The funds collected will be used to pay living expenses for 150 families. Each family will receive per month a minimum basket composed:
- 1 bag of rice or corn of 25 kg,
- 1 liter can of oil,
- 4 scoops of soap,
- hygienic products (Cottons, detergents),
- Nutritional supplements for children (milk, couscous)
3. Why are we doing it
In Burkina Faso, humanitarian needs are growing rapidly as conflict and insecurity force thousands of people to flee their villages. Some families have relocated several times and the prospects for immediate return are low. The living conditions of the host communities are worsening with the massive arrival of these populations. The homes of the most vulnerable were also affected by strong winds and flooding due to the rainy season.
The number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) registered as of February 28, 2021 is 1,121,960.
From the start of the crisis, local populations have shown great solidarity by welcoming the vast majority of displaced people to host families. This reception capacity has now reached these limits. The usual crowded conditions and lack of access to minimum services pose strong additional risks in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

ABSE has a dynamic and multidisciplinary team with many years of experience who make rigorous program management a priority. We are all committed to the promotion and protection of women and children by vocation.
It was difficult, if not unthinkable, for us to remain passive in the suffering of these many families who are fleeing terrorist attacks and who find themselves living in precarious conditions.
ABSE is in solidarity with the many efforts made by other humanitarian organizations who are struggling to respond to the many solicitation of internally displaced people whose number continues to grow every day.
5. Call for Action
Each of us can do something for these families in distress. This is why we call on the generosity of all individuals and companies to make even a minimal contribution to give a smile to these women and children.
