Hi, my name is Pippa and I want know where you will be in 50 years?
I will be here on this planet of ours. So will my school friends. We need your help for our project, One Thousand Actions for the Planet.
This project is led by the young people in the City of Fremantle and other metropolitan communities in Western Australia to make positive, sustainable change now.
Imagine giving young people a voice. Well, I am one of those voices, I am a Millennium Kid, and that's exactly what the organisation Millennium Kids Inc is all about.
In March 2016, I met with Millennium Kids Inc who had partnered withLow Carbon Schools, to talk about a sustainable future. I put my hand up to help lead a future thinking program for young people in the City of Fremantle.
I want to to help skill young people in identifying opportunities for positive change in our community, learn about project development and project management.
So here is the idea. I will help lead One Thousand Actions for the Planet with Millennium Kids Inc, the Low Carbon School team and young people from our area. Young people will meet and develop their ideas for a better planet through workshops at schools, then pitch their ideas for change in the City of Fremantle and other local government areas.
We already have 15 schools on board who have put their hands up to be part of One Thousand Actions for the Planet. Together we will work to give young people a voice, identify issues and opportunities for change in their schools. Millennium Kids have been doing this for 20 years. They have a proven mapping process to develop actions for the planet, with links to Sustainable School Initiative WA and the One Planet Principles, developing a pathway for one thousand actions for the planet. With your help, I believe we can use this funding to build a team of young people to lead the charge so we can:
- Develop a committee of young people who can report to local government on youth opinion around the One Planet Principles,
- Develop a one day leadership program for schools focusing on future thinking, project design and implementation,
- Develop hundreds of sustainablity projects that make positive change in the community,
- Report to local government on project development and outcomes,
- Participate in local government events and conferences, providing an important youth voice
- Participate in the MK UNconference for Future Thinkers on 5th, 6th and 7th of October 2016 showcasing the initiatives to a wider audience.
Using future thinking principles, the community of young people will be armed with the skills to make positive change now.
Through FreoMatch I pitched the idea and the City of Fremantle pledged $5000 to start the process, but to access the funds we need your help to raise a further $5000. Check out our rewards program and help us help the planet.
Look forward to hearing from you soon. Pippa and the MK Team.
